Blogtober Friday Finds

I really wish I had kept up with this features more this month! I really try to find a balance between my shop, blogging and motherhood. And trying to sleep, that part usually suffers.

I found some really cool posts around the web this week I want to share before Halloween!

| Sarah guest posted on Laurenyloves 5 ways to celebrate Halloween that isn’t trick or treating; this is a fun list if you’re out of idea’s on what to do on Halloween or prefer to just stay home.

| To follow that up cupcakesandcouscous posted 6 easy Halloween cookie idea’s along with a recipe for a basic vanilla cookie dough!; I really need to start using my KitchenAid. It’s like I want to but it’s so intimidating! I’d love to give this a try!

| Kate at yourtitakate posted a Undas book tag challenge; October is also Filipino American History Month and I wish I had known that, I haven’t put up very many Filipino American posts. For some reason they’re hard to write about esp when you’re far from your family. So I tend to stalk Kate’s social’s to remedy that. It is what it is lol.

| I came across a post on ThePlainSimpleLife on 10 tips how to declutter before a move; I always intend to do this and run out of time. I really want to make this a completed project before the new year!

I can’t believe October is already over! If you found any cool or useful links feel free to share them below!

Have a good weekend & stay safe!

Monday Mindful Manifestation

I tend to forget I control my life. No one else does and no one else has the right to.

That just because I’m not happy with where I am, doesn’t mean it’ll be like this forever and to work for the life I want. I told myself that I wouldn’t let someone else stop me from doing the things I want anymore and I really need to remind myself of that this week.

I’m capable of anything and I need to stop selling myself short!

My 3 Must Watch Spoopy Movies

My 3 Must Watch Spoopy Movies

Sorry ya’ll, I’m not a horror junkie. I hate scary shit. I hate being scared, I get ridiculously pissed off when I’m scared.

I do however love gothic fantasy. Paranormal elements. Things like that, as long as it’s like… you know… not creepy. There’s such a fine line when it comes to that. So here’s my safe seasonal movies lol! I really thought I had more but I don’t. I’m not a huge Hocus Pocus fan so that’s why that’s not on my list.

| The Nightmare Before Christmas

This is a must. But it’s also a must year round. I usually start playing the intro song around the time I start prepping for Halloween. Which is usually in July. I love that this movie can apply to both Halloween AND Christmas. My favorite scene has to be the intro when he’s The Pumpkin King. I wish that got a bit more screen time!

| Return to Oz

Okay I guess this one is seriously up for debate on if it’s spoopy or fuckin creepy af. Lucky for me, I grew up watching this movie and I still watch it — it’s my “bad day” movie. I have a lot of very sentimental memories with this movie and my Lolo (grandpa). Doesn’t help that maybe Mombi and The Wheelers are my fav. Next to TikTok.

I do hear that this movie CAN be terrifying and I guess I can see why. It’s like a darker Wizard of Oz. The Gnome King really freakin annoys me though. Like, the audacity of this guy. I have so many favorite parts of this movie I don’t even know where to begin! As a kid I always thought the Lunchbox Tree was cool. Like if that was a real thing. Wish they had went a bit more into who Mombi and Ozma were.

| Witches

I grew up watching this one. Ironically it wasn’t the witches that scared me. Or his weird sketch grandma. It was the girl who grows old in the painting. Even as an adult that part still sends goosebumps up my arm. But like I said, I grew up watching this so I have some fond memories of catching this one live on TV! Lowkey miss when there was a certain time certain things came on.

To be fair the acting in this one isn’t top notch and there’s a lot of things that don’t make sense. Like weren’t they children once? But whatever, I guess.

So that’s my very short list of my top 3 spoopy movies!

What are some of your non scary Halloween movies?

Fall Bucket List

Fall Bucket List

I’m gonna go ahead and say that this is gonna cover half of November as well. With my seasonal late ass.

| Visit a Pumpkin Patch

This has been on my Fall Bucket List forever. Some day I’ll actually go to one. You’d think there were a ton in Texas, but for some reason there really aren’t that many in my area.

| Eat Disney Fall Snacks

I’m celebrating Halloween at Disney this year and I’m SO EXCITED. It’s been years since I last have and I CAN NOT WAIT. I already have a food wish list lol. Disney snacks are obvi my fav but Fall snacks even more. I’m so glad most of them aren’t exclusive to the Halloween party anymore!

| Do a Fall Photo Shoot

This sort of ties in with visit a Pumpkin Patch. There aren’t many places around me to take Fall photos; I may just have to do one while I’m at Disney instead! But I’ve always wanted to do one of those cliché Fall photo shoot’s people do! I’m still salty I didn’t get to take maternity photos like I wanted to! I’ve resolved that if I want to do something, I’m gonna have to do it and I’m responsible for making sure it happens.

| Bake Something Fall Themed

This is one that’s been on my list for a while now! I finally have a Kitchen Aid so I don’t see why this can’t be done this year. And I’m not talking cupcakes or cake or anything. I want to do something like Fall themed bread or a pie… something warm, cozy and comforting spices!

| Paint a Halloween Light

They have these at Michael’s where you pick a blank object to paint and it’s actually a table light! I don’t think Tums is old enough to do this one just yet, but I really want to start doing this myself. I don’t have many Fall/Halloween traditions, so I think this would be fun.

| Make Caramel Apples

I keep buying things to MAKE caramel apples but I end up eating all the supplies. I LOVE caramel apples, especially the ones from Disney. I use to work at Candy Cauldron so I know HOW to make Disney caramel apples lol. I just need to stop eating everything before getting there. And I need to find the right kind of caramel!

| Read Spooky Books

My Halloween Reading Challenge falls into this one! But I tend to set aside most spooky books for October!

| Decorate for Fall

I usually start this one in July, I live in places where it doesn’t get cold until December so it doesn’t really matter how early I start. However this year I haven’t even started yet. I just haven’t been in the Fall mood for some reason this year. Granted most Fall seasons in TX haven’t really been that great and have sort of been taken away from me. But I plan to decorate for Fall/Thanksgiving pretty soon.

| Light all the Fall scented candles

This one’s a given but still deserved to be on this list. Thankfully I haven’t gone crazy on the Fall scented candles or wax melts this year!

What are some things on your Fall Bucket List?

September 2021 Recap

September 2021 Recap

September somehow felt like the shortest month ever. I don’t know why or how but I barely remember September. Literally, it almost feels like it never even happened.

Seasonal depression decided to kick in hard and early, so that might also be why. So much harder that I haven’t been in the Fall mood, and it’s usually the only time of the year I actually look forward to. But this year I don’t seem to have any desire to decorate, or even LOOK at Fall snacks. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with me but this is unusual, for sure.

READ

I started reading Lakesedge by Lyndall Clipstone and The Kingdom by Jess Rothenberg, I didn’t finish a book. I barely read. I’m really hoping Oct will be better.

SAW

Tums has been watching Bluey non stop. It’s not such a horrible show. It’s actually kind of funny. I’m confused at how their parents play games with them 24/7.

I also made lyric quote stickers that are up on my Etsy shop!

I finally gave in and watched Hamilton, I regret not watching it sooner. It was completely moving. It reminded me why I loved History as a kid. It reminded why I love theater. There’s so much to say about it. I’ve been listening to the soundtrack nonstop.

5 Ways to Self Sabotage Your Own Health

5 Ways to Self Sabotage Your Own Health

When it comes to our own health we tend to make excuses for ourselves, yet when it comes to someone else’s sometimes we have the most to say when it’s really not our place/business. I know I’m guilty of this! I don’t eat as well as I use to (really trying though) but I do know I think about it often and tell myself next week, next month. It’s not about going hot turkey (is that the opposite for cold turkey or nah) on being health conscious, it’s about making mindful steps towards better habits for yourself.

But we’re not talking about that here, we’re talking about the 5 ways you can sabotage your own health (and yourself).

| Eating straight up crap

Eating crap will make you feel like crap. Period. I love McDonald’s just as much as the next person but eating it all week or super frequently can’t be good for you. There are some times I can eat something super unhealthy and just feel it cling to my insides if that makes sense lol. Fast food places offer healthier stuff but at the end of the day, it’s still fast food.

I know for me when I add more fruits and veggies into my meals I tend to feel better. Less heavy. The only thing I can’t kick is soda and coffee. But hey, well have to have “our thing”. Though sometimes coffee really makes me feel worse than better. I know this one is a “duh” but it still needs to be pointed out.

| Being un-active and wondering why you’re always tired

I’m totally outting myself with this one.

Since moving to TX I don’t go out as much as I use to, and when I do, I don’t do a lot of walking like I did when I lived in Florida. Bub isn’t big on walking and since it’s hot here the majority of the year, sometimes he won’t even leave the car. That makes it hard for me to find time to just walk like I use to. Because of this, my sciatic nerve has been acting up and that shit is not fun. I do find on days when I walk a lot it’s not as painful.

Makes me miss living in Florida and going to Disney World all the time.

I do find that when I’m less busy/active I tend to be MORE tired. I mean I don’t sleep well and I haven’t since 2006 (really need to get that checked) and since giving birth I REALLY don’t sleep at night; but I try to be active. Tums likes to play hide and seek and kick ball (in the apartment) so I take every chance I can to actively play with her. I find that if I’m more active during the day I’m less likely to want/need a nap; verses when I’d spend all day in bed or have nothing going on, I tend to be more tired and sleepy.

| Ignoring your own boundaries

I think most people are guilty of this one because we want to avoid conflict. Which is totally valid. But what is the fine line between it all? Everyone has their own set of boundaries for a reason, and sure we let people slide from time to time to avoid conflict but that’s just us self sabotaging.

Boundaries are hard for other people to understand, especially if your boundary is something that was “okay” at one point or if it’s something they don’t like — or can’t control you with. But it’s important to you and your well being to stand by your boundaries and enforce them when they need to be.

| Drowning yourself in work because you can’t find/afford therapy

Hai, me outting myself again!

Therapy is a bitch to find in TX and when you do find it, you have to go through so many things just to be able to finally SEE a therapist. It’s so crazy and time consuming. I have a habit of throwing myself into work in general but also intensely so when I’m in a mood.

The Rock says this interesting thing a lot: “I hit the gym so hard because I refuse to go to therapy.” or some shit. But that was my eye opening moment that everyone goes through it and a lot of us find vices instead of help. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that, at all. I think this habit of mine is productive, but that’s just me.

| Not listening to yourself

Your gut won’t lie to you. Ever.

If you feel like a place, person or situation isn’t good for you… you’re probably right. If you feel like your body is telling you to chill tf out and rest, you probably need to. WE usually know what’s best for us, more than anyone else but we listen to everything and everyone else BUT ourselves.

It’s def time to start listening to ourselves more.

What are some other ways that belong on this list?

Hello Blogtober!

I’m so obsessed with Procreate

How the hell is it October already?! That’s so crazy. This whole year has been crazy!

Although I had said I was going to take a step back from blogging this year, I did want to try doing blogtober as I do every year. I don’t expect to do the whole 31 days, but it would be nice if I did. I do have a trip planner later this month, I’m hoping to get my posts pre-written before then.

OCTOBER GOALS;

— Release October shop update (that’s today)!
— Release small Etsy shop update!
— Keep up with Blogtober
— Complete annual Halloween Reading Challenge
— Get a Halloween costume
— RELAX as much as possible on trip
— Organize office (esp the closet)
— Prep desk so that I can fit small biz stuff on it
— Stop by the State Fair

I’m not trying to give myself too much to do this month since there’s already a lot to focus on. But I’m really excited for this month!

Are you doing blogtober this year?
