Sorry ya’ll, I’m not a horror junkie. I hate scary shit. I hate being scared, I get ridiculously pissed off when I’m scared.
I do however love gothic fantasy. Paranormal elements. Things like that, as long as it’s like… you know… not creepy. There’s such a fine line when it comes to that. So here’s my safe seasonal movies lol! I really thought I had more but I don’t. I’m not a huge Hocus Pocus fan so that’s why that’s not on my list.
| The Nightmare Before Christmas
This is a must. But it’s also a must year round. I usually start playing the intro song around the time I start prepping for Halloween. Which is usually in July. I love that this movie can apply to both Halloween AND Christmas. My favorite scene has to be the intro when he’s The Pumpkin King. I wish that got a bit more screen time!
| Return to Oz
Okay I guess this one is seriously up for debate on if it’s spoopy or fuckin creepy af. Lucky for me, I grew up watching this movie and I still watch it — it’s my “bad day” movie. I have a lot of very sentimental memories with this movie and my Lolo (grandpa). Doesn’t help that maybe Mombi and The Wheelers are my fav. Next to TikTok.
I do hear that this movie CAN be terrifying and I guess I can see why. It’s like a darker Wizard of Oz. The Gnome King really freakin annoys me though. Like, the audacity of this guy. I have so many favorite parts of this movie I don’t even know where to begin! As a kid I always thought the Lunchbox Tree was cool. Like if that was a real thing. Wish they had went a bit more into who Mombi and Ozma were.
I grew up watching this one. Ironically it wasn’t the witches that scared me. Or his weird sketch grandma. It was the girl who grows old in the painting. Even as an adult that part still sends goosebumps up my arm. But like I said, I grew up watching this so I have some fond memories of catching this one live on TV! Lowkey miss when there was a certain time certain things came on.
To be fair the acting in this one isn’t top notch and there’s a lot of things that don’t make sense. Like weren’t they children once? But whatever, I guess.
So that’s my very short list of my top 3 spoopy movies!
All the Etsy Disney shops I bought products from for my upcoming trip.
I’ve always wanted indie Disney shirts. I don’t know why, I just love how creative people get with their designs esp the text only ones. I’ve also thought of making my own, but I don’t know where people get theirs printed at. Something I’ll have to look into for sure!
I’m one of those people who LOVE to scroll through Etsy. I always have been! In fact my wedding favors from my first marriage were from Etsy! I had so much fun sampling different products and working with various different Etsy sellers. That really made my Etsy experience super memorable! I love the idea that if you’re good at creating something, you can make a business out of it. Like honestly, how cool is that idea?! It’s definitely easier now than it was in 2009, that’s for sure!
I’m constantly finding really cool shops and places I swear by! So I figured I’d start this mini weekly feature to share some of those links. This won’t be an every week kind of feature but an every now and then. Even though I’ve bookmarked enough shops to keep this feature going for possibly a year. Or 5. My bookmark list is insane. I’ve had my account since 2008, so you know. That’s A LOT of shops lol.
I also opened my own Etsy shop for stock photos but tbh, I haven’t worked on it since I opened it. I spent years trying to plan the perfect Etsy shop and out of nowhere one night I was like: eff this I’m starting one. So now I have to commit lmao. The first shop I wanted to open was a wax melt shop back in 2014 but it never happened because it was “never the right time” or I was “never ready”. So. It never happened and I just now decided to come back to that idea.
I’m opening that damn shop in 2021, I swear.
Right now I’m really into illustration — so a lot of the shops I’ve been bookmarking have to do with illustration or clip art, stickers or those really cute pins. Did I decide to learn to draw in 2021 to join the movement? Yes. Why lie lol. Another kind of shop I look for a lot are ones that make anything Filipino inspired. I miss being close to my culture and my family, so I’m obsessed with all things Filipino plus I have a kid to teach now.
If some of these links/themes aren’t your cup of wine that’s totally fine, I won’t be offended. Promise.
Okay I’m not doing these in order but IT’S OK! Heather at Geeking-By hosts Seriously Geeky Sundays on her blog! It looks super fun and I just recently discovered it!
I’m starting with the topic of Animation!
What is your favourite Disney movie? Ooh, this is tough! I have a lot of favorite Disney movies! It’s between Tangled, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Alice in Wonderland and Return to Oz — which isn’t animated but eh.
What is your favourite non-Disney movie? I have feel good movies like 13 Going on 30, Serendipity, 27 Dresses… but lately I’d have to say it’s The Greatest Showman! Dangit, you meant animated didn’t you? Anastasia!
What is your favourite animated show? I personally find it ironic that my response for this is an anime: Fairy Tail Also The Devil is a Part Timer and Yuri on Ice were some other favs.
What was your favourite childhood show? Doug, Reboot, Gargoyles! Mostly stuff from One Saturday Morning. I miss that! I had a lot! One I can never find anything on is Princess Gwenevere!
Who is your favourite animated character? I collect all things Cheshire Cat and Buzz Lightyear.
This was so fun to do! You can join in whenever you want to and if you’re big on animation I’d love to see your answers! Also, I stopped doing the gif’s cause it started to lag with the new editor. Whomp haha.
The Haunted Mansion celebrated its 51st anniversary this week and I figured maybe I should write down my lifelong experience and struggle with this attraction; that I absolutely hated then grew to love.
When I was little, like maybe 7 I went to Disneyland with my cousin’s family. And my cousin made me promise to keep my eyes open the entire ride and if I didn’t I’d go to Hell (legit, that’s what she said). I looked around not knowing WHAT this ride was but saw that there was “creepy” music, a freakin graveyard that my little 7 year old mind thought was real and workers that looked like if I sceamed for help they sure as hell wouldn’t help me.
So I get on the ride, sharing a buggy with my mom and she’s like “look!” and I had my eyes covered SOBBING cause I was so scared. I knew at some point a ghost pops up behind you and the freakin narrator and his “and a ghost will follow you home” shit wasn’t helping. We met up with my brother who I think was with my dad or my other cousin and he was like, crying.
And I never spoke about that ride or EVER got back on it.
If there’s one solid tradition Bubba and I have kept our entire relationship it’s celebrating May The 4th. I’m such a huge Star Wars fan and I miss when they had Star Wars weekends at Hollywood Studios parks! Those were so fun!
I haven’t been able to get back to the parks since Star Wars land has opened but believe me, I am counting. down. until. I. do!
Bubba went all out for this years May The 4th celebration; we actually celebrated on the 2nd since he works on the 4th but he cooked up a whole spread of different foods.
December — when I was a full time book blogger — was usually dystopia month but the last few years it’s been my favorite holiday re-reads and a TBR that’ll give me all those cozy holiday feels.
Unfortunately taking the photo for this blog post has made me realize how many books I don’t physically own.
Also while taking photos I caught a tiny little Sophie tongue as she was trying to get some attention too.

Do you have any books you’re hoping to read this month?
The Princess Switch Release Date: November 16th, 2018 Distributed By: Netflix Genre: Romance
A Chicago baker is competing in a Christmas baking competition in Belgravia. There she bumps into the prince’s fiancee. They look alike and switch for 2 days.
“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”
When I saw the trailer for this I knew I had to watch it this holiday season! I have a soft spot for Vanessa Hudgens just as much as I have one for Zac Efron.
This follows Stacy who’s a baker from Chicago and owns a bakery with her best friend Kevin. The movie opens up with Kevin and his daughter Olivia saying they entered Stacy into a baking competition that takes place in Belgravia and she was accepted to compete.
Stacy is the “must plan” type so her dropping everything at her bakery for 3 days to compete seems like an impossible idea. After running into her ex with his new girl she decides to take a chance and go on this trip.
Meanwhile Lady Margaret is set to marry Prince Edward after the holiday season and while she longs to be a normal person without the worries of being royalty she know she has a “duty” to fill since her parents have passed away.
The two run into each other during the baking practice and assume they must somehow be related (I mean ya’ll look EXACTLY alike but sure you must “somehow” be related — uhm no one even mentioned they might be twins).
Overall this movie was cute and quick. I loved the influence that Stacy had on Prince Edward. It’s easy to forget how submissive women in royalty are expected to be and how “threatening” how a strong willed woman could be. And a bit sad because aren’t queens historically more powerful?
I wish they went more into Stacey and who she is, who her parents were. If she had any family. But they barely even touched on her or who she was. Versus we got to know Lady Margaret and Prince Edward a little bit more.
When it came to the actual romances in the film we spent a bit more time with Stacey/Prince Edward and not as much time with Lady Margaret/Kevin.
I know this isn’t meant to be some full length detailed movie so I’m not going to list all the “well what about….” questions that had popped up after I was finished watching it. I did appreciate it for what it was — a cute festive movie just in time for the Holidays!
Have you seen this movie? If not do you plan on watching it? What’s your favorite or go-to holiday movie?
Like I did with Hulu, I figured I would do one for Netflix (and possibly Amazon and movies) as well.
I guess I should had changed the Hulu one to Summer instead of Spring, but you guys know what I mean. I feel like May is that inbetween month anyway.
I have 11 on my Queue list for Netflix. I’m definitely not going to get through all of them but here are a few I’m hoping to watch this season!
Cosmosis a show a good friend of mine actually introduced me to during a dark period of my life 5 years ago. It was super interesting. I think I ended up watching KUWTK and Awkward and I kind of just stopped watching this one.
I use to start my mornings with an episode and have it run while I was doing homework. Sometimes I get obsessed with learning. But this is a pretty interesting show, if you’re into stuff like this.
Parks and Rec is a show that I always told myself I’d watch eventually. I watched about 3 episodes some time last summer, it was entertaining enough but I wasn’t like HOOKED. I just know this show is known for its memes lol.
FRIENDSis hands down one of my favorite all time shows. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this entire series but it’s legendary. It’s often background noise if anything but when I’m really sad I binge FRIENDS until I feel motivated enough to get up and start my day lol. FRIENDS is that friend that’s just always there when you need them!
Girl Meets Worldwas a show I was SUPER excited for when I heard it was going to become a thing! I remember watching the first episode but I don’t remember it. Boy Meets World was my shit growing up, it was one of my favorite TGIF shows and shows in general! Although Topanga and Corey gave you serious unrealistic expectations in childhood relationships and Corey and Shaun gave you serious unrealistic expectations in friendships it was still a really feel good show!
I have pretty high hopes for this!
Riverdaleis a show I’ve been hearing A LOT about lately!
I guess it’s suppose to be based on the Archie comics? I’m not really sure. But this screen cap makes it look like some edgy Vampire Diaries sort of shit. Archie comics were definitely something I read and collected as a kid but I’m a little nervous to go into this. I’m scare it won’t be what I’m thinking it is lol!
Plus I’m not a fan of gore and dark themed shows or movies.
Minus Shadowhunters cause I mean come on… it’s Jace and Bane. How can you say no to those two?!
The New Legends of Monkeyis something I’ve never heard of. But it’s giving me The Forbidden Kingdom (you know with Jackie Chan… loved that movie) vibes.
Aggrestsukois literally all over social media these days. I brought this up to Bubba a few days ago and he wasn’t digging the hover preview but I’m SUPER curious to know what this about. Apparently she’s an adult red panda who works in a city? I don’t know and I haven’t bothered reading anything on it until I watch it lol.
I know The Clone Wars is not nothing new at all but I’ve never watched it! Crazy right! I’m a huge Star Wars fan and the fact I’ve never seen this slightly bothers me! Especially because we see their Funko Pop’s a lot when we’re out and I just wanna know who these characters are dammit!
I’ve never heard of Being Human either, I don’t think? But I’m a huge fan of paranormal young adult books and this looks like that. But in a TV series format. I’m just hoping it’s not even a little bit creepy or dark and edgy. Because it sounds really interesting.
A Series of Unfortunate Events was a show I was looking forward to a few years ago when it first came out and I don’t know, I guess it was around the time I stopped watching Netflix cause I just never ended up watching it. I haven’t read the books either so I’m not really sure what to expect.
Girlbosslooks super interesting! As a blogger and former Network Marketing Marketer (is that a title?!) the term girlboss obviously always appealed to me! I even read that one book titled Girlboss! I’m sure the book and this show aren’t related in any way because I think one is about a young adult. Wait, I just looked it up. I lied. It’s inspired by.
I just started watching Aggretsuko, I couldn’t resist!
“Your chill game is something to behold,”
It’s so cute!
And I’m starting to think Bubba is the responsible type. I mean he is, but man does this second episode apply to him lol!
I have a slight thing against watching movies or really really long tv shows, I’m definitely not the type to binge watch anything unless it’s on a tablet next to my laptop or if I’m REALLY sick to the point where I literally CAN’T get up. I try to be better at watching things but it’s definitely hard for me to. I always feel like there’s something else, something more productive I could be doing. I have a hard time with giving myself downtime and just relaxing.
I recently browsed through Hulu and saw so many throwback and so many interesting things I’d like to give a go! I might end up breaking this up into different sections but for now here’s my general Spring Hulu Queue list!
Sophie La Girafe
I spotted Sophie at Target last fall when I was pregnant and I remember wanting to get some of her stuff for A, my cat’s name is Sophie so I thought it would be a cute little thing. Even though we lost A, I still want to go back and pick up some Sophie stuff at some point for whenever I get pregnant again. It’s just one of those weird life things.
I saw she had a TV show, it only has one episode so far but I’m curious to see what it’s about!
Tiny Toon Adventures
THIS. Was my CHILDHOOD!
I loved this show as a kid and I was so excited to see it up on Hulu! I’ve went back and watched old childhood favs before only to realize they weren’t as funny/what I remembered them to be but it’s still nice to be able to look back at what little Hazel thought was snarky or funny or entertaining!
Over The Garden Wall
I use to collect these comics, like 2-3 years ago! I didn’t know what it was and I haven’t even read those yet but I’ve been seeing a bit of Over The Garden Wall stuff popping up at places like Hot Topic and now I see they have a show?! I’m super curious to see what this is about!
This Is Us
I admit, I don’t really know exactly what this is about except it was filed under hopeless romantic. I’m hoping I don’t regret putting this on my queue! I’ve heard a few things about this awhile back, but I barely remember what anyone has said. Eep.
Oh my early high school days!
This show (along with One Tree Hill) had inspired SO MANY emotional blog posts when I was in high school — back when I use to talk about my feelings on a pretty daily basis and when I use to reflect like I was a damn mirror.
I had an ex at the time who didn’t like the show and never wanted me to talk about it — he was convinced the show was influencing me to be mean to him and to break up with him. He was literally psycho. And looking back on it now, it’s crazy to think someone would actually THINK that.
I loved this show so much! I literally can’t wait to rewatch it all ♥.
Awkward was my guilty pleasure show (along with Keeping Up With The Kardashians) during my separation/divorce. I don’t remember where I left off at… and I don’t remember WHY but I absolutely ADORED this show. Jenna’s BFF Tamara was my favorite character. Along with Jake. #TeamJake! Oh and #TeamCollin. #BEGONEMATTY.
I know I said I’d get back into The Mortal Instruments series after I “took a break” 4 years ago because dammit Valentine and Sebastian were too intense for me. But I follow them on Twitter and seeing sneak peeks for upcoming episodes has me SUPER curious about where this show is going and what’s happening. I’m afraid of bookish spoilers but I’ll live lol!
Fresh Off The Boat
I was watching this for awhile, when it first aired. I don’t know why I stopped but I remember it was funny af. The little boy needs his ass whooped lmao! With talk of Crazy Rich Asians it brought my attention back to this and how I need to start catching up on my American Asian shows (we don’t have very many)!
I don’t think I’ve heard ANYTHING about this one. But I mean that series photo and the fact it’s on FreeForm makes me think it’s some sort of young adult series that’s meant to be relatable. So, why not?
I know, I know. This show has been around FOREVER.
I’ve never seen not one episode. I’ve seen memes, but not any of the episodes. This also applies to How I Met Your Mother. I don’t know why! They just were shows I guess I wasn’t interested in back when they were “the thing” everyone was watching!
And now, years later, I’m curious to know what the hype about this one is!
Tasting Our Roots
I’m a sucker for food shows.
And while this one isn’t something exciting like Iron Chef and not exactly a food documentary, it still sounds really interesting. As someone who was previously a culinary major and misses that life so so much, I’m super interested to see where this show goes!
I’ve always been a sucker for The Food Network and Good Eats has always been one of my favorite shows ever since my family decided to get cable and bless me with The Food Network. The science behind food is always so interesting to me! So I totally sit there glued to the screen when it comes to this show just soaking up all that information!
Are there any shows you would like to suggest me to check out on Hulu this season?
