Sage & Chill: 5 Reasons You Should Sage Cleanse

It took me forever to catch this but I’m so glad I did.

My cousin has been bugging me to Sage Cleanse for maybe a year or two now. Ever since he started doing it. In March my BFF sent me Sage along with my Disney snack “because we both need good vibes after 2019,” I finally gave it a try about a month (or less) ago. And I’ve been obsessed since. Honestly, the first time I did a whole apartment Sage Cleanse I got really sleepy and hungry. My cousin was like “yeah girl, that’s all those bad vibes getting the hell out.”

Since then I picked up this one with Lavender from Etsy, and honestly, I’m almost done. It’s been so fun watching the fire ignite even more when you blow on it because of the dried Lavender. Wouldn’t recommend if you have a problem seeing holes; I don’t remember what it was called. I’ve noticed that when I do Sage I don’t get these mini anxiety attacks I usually get in my nightly bath. I’m usually more relaxed then I’ve been in a very long while. And I sleep better. I also like the smell of Sage… it’s kind of comforting.

I don’t know why I took so long to try Sage Cleansing, but I really wish I had started sooner.

5 Reasons Why You Should Sage Cleanse;

It helps purify the air

Sage is helpful in the fact that it’s a natural air disinfectant. If that isn’t cool, I don’t know what is! It’s especially helpful to clean the air if someone was recently sick, killing all the germs and bacteria still floating around. It’s also thought to help minimize mold, dust and allergens. I’m not 100% sure about this one, but even with a shedding cat my family has been sneezing significantly less.

It’s used as part of a spiritual ritual

Sage Cleaning first originated with Native American’s as an ancient spiritual ritual. Most times you are to start the Smudge Cleanse with gratitude and close with gratitude. I tend to think of the all the things I’m thankful for as I walk around the room. I mindfully remind myself the goal is to welcome positive vibes and try my best to ignore negative ones. There are a ton of reasons why people use it spiritually. I have a friend who prefers to keep it burning while she meditates. It has also shown that it could help uplift your mood. Seriously, there’s just something so soothing about walking around with Sage. It’s become one of my favorite daily rituals.

Sage can be bundled with other herbs as some herbs have additional properties they can add to the Sage. As I mentioned I recently picked up one that was bundled with Lavender. I typically keep Lavender close by, it helps with my anxiety and depression. So I figured if Sage is used to cleanse, then Lavender can only make it better. The shop I picked up from on Etsy sells several didn’t types of bundles, each has an additional specific element to add. Lavender adds peace, rest of body and mind and has soothing properties. Plus if you’re not a fan of the smell of Sage then picking up a bundle with other herbs may be your best bet. My husband doesn’t like the smell of the normal Sage but he smells more Lavender than anything else with this one!

Improves sleep

Like I mentioned earlier, I’ve noticed that when I do Sage I tend to sleep better and deeper. Which is crazy since I’ve forever had problems with falling asleep and staying asleep. And with a toddler, it gets even harder. But I’ve noticed the nights I Sage even if I wake up during my usual night feeding time, I sleep deeper and feel more refreshed. When your space is free of negative energy it’s a given you’ll sleep better. And even if you don’t believe in this sort of stuff I’ve had a handful of friends say the same thing; they’ve noticed a quality increase in sleep.

It can be used to cleanse objects

One known way to cleanse your crystals is with Sage smoke. If you’re like me and don’t live near a river and keep forgetting the phases of the moon, this is another known way. I’ve started cleansing the most random items I bring into my room just to dispel any bad energy it might be carrying. I especially Sage things that come from or were at my in law’s. Even Saging your own items that you might have had with you during an argument or placed in a negative situation can also be cleansed with Sage smoke.
